Hello,
I'm looking for any guidance, recommendations, lessons learned, etc.
before I upgrade.
I develop and support a single standalone Java application that is
relatively large (~275 classes). It is currently developed on Windows
10 using NetBeans 12.6 and Subversion. I currently develop with Java
11, but the application has been fully tested when executing on Java
17. The primary target platform is a headless RPi 4 running 64-bit
Bullseye. I use remote platform execution and debugging with NetBeans
12.6. A secondary target platform for this application is Windows 10.
I now want to move development to Java 17 and NetBeans 18 on Windows
10. Because some restructuring of the application is also planned, I
will probably create a new project. If possible I'd like to run new
development on NetBeans 18 / Java 17 and existing support on NetBeans
12.6 / Java 11 in parallel on the same Windows 10 box using the same
instance of Subversion. This would be temporary during the transition,
but that could last several months. I also want to retain the remote
execution / debugging features I use today.
While I consider myself an expert in my application's domain, I am not
an expert NetBeans admin. I know enough to do what I need to do. So
any information anyone is willing to share about how to make this
transition smooth and easy would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
Blaine
