Unless you're using EAR files, in which case it's pretty trivial (and documented!). See http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-ear-plugin/examples/customizing-co ntext-root.html. There is no standard mechanism for specifying a context root of a standalone WAR deployment (i.e. outside of an EAR deployment).
