Mirroring and Synchronization of repositories is not a feature of Archiva. That is due in a version after 1.0.
Archiva will however proxy from a remote repository. http/https/ftp/scp, etc... will all work. If you are experiencing certificate issues, then you'll likely need to setup / edit the certificate chain for your JVM. There are plenty of how-to's out on the internet to show you how to do that with your OS of choice.
