Hey Wendy, Thanks for clarifying that... I was thinking about using exclusions to enable the override :) The issue you noted is more appropriate for this thread.
After digging up some old notes on this issue however, I think you are justified in your confused feeling that you have been able to override plugin dependencies successfully, because you probably have. In my post about a related issue on the list back in March http://www.nabble.com/-Maven2--xmlbeans-maven-plugin-Issue----StAX-transitive-dependencies-tf3359711.html#a9345543 I noted that I was able to get the override to work if I actually added a few more arbitrary dependencies to my project.
