Hi Dave,

You can configure the surefire plugin to update the system path to add the 
output directory. Here an example
for Windows:
    <configuration>
      <environmentVariables>
         <PATH>${basedir}\target;${java.library.path}</PATH>
      </environmentVariables>
    </configuration>
