Hi all,

if you wonder where Proximity goes these days..... :)

First of all, the RC4.2 is the latest release and is stabilized with
current features and despite it's RC mark it is stable for production
use.

Prior 1.0.0 "final" release, we had to make a stop to implement some
"larger" features and fix reported bugs. Some of the most important
are:

- dynamic repository configuration (since most of the support request
was all about it)
- WebDAV interface for direct Proximity deployment (2nd most asked feature)
- using embedded POM in maven generated artifacts as metadata source
instead of "plain" POM files only
- expanding artifact info page and "do something with dependencies"
(either adding links to follow them and/or visualization)
- adding functionality to "dive into" JAR, WAR, etc files without
downloading them locally to inspect it's content like
log4j.properties, etc.
- implementing negative-cache feature
- polishing and extending WS iface

The first two feature will be implemented by AbstractHorizon-s
"inhouse" artifacts, using spring-extension (the opposite of xml bean
definition reader from the Spring Framework, by serializing app
context) and a lightweight WebDAV implementation, since we found Slide
Server to "heavyweight" to use.

I have to apologize to all impatient Proximity users, but the
Proximity 1.0.0 release will be reasonably delayed, possibly to late
october or november 2006.

The DEMO site[1] will still reflect the latest development snapshot
and will offer Continuum built "nighlty" downloads through Proximity
from here [2]. Also, the "nighlty download area" will be refreshed
from time to time by me.

Have fun,
and thanks for patience
~t~
