I am excited about this application which I think is exactly what I need
right now. From what I read so far and understand, it looks to me as
Archiva could be an easy to use internal proxy to the official Maven
central repository.
Unfortunately I still don't fully understand how this can work and
cannot get any results with my current configuration. I have configured
a profile with repositories pointing to my Archiva installation and
activated it:

All I get if I run a maven target is the following:
[WARNING] Unable to get resource from repository central
(http://xxx.markettools.com:8888/proxy)
Downloading:
http://xxx/repositories/maven2/org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-plugins/1/
maven-plugins-1.pom
The second one is our internal current repository where I have copied
manually files from my local repository.
I would expect that Archiva goes outside and downloads missing
dependencies. But that is here not the case.
I think I am missing a piece of information here with the proxy
(http://localhost:8080/proxy/ in your example). If I look at my Tomcat
installation, there is no context specified with the name proxy. How
can that possibly work?
Do you have by any chance a bit more information for me on how you
set-up your environment that could help me to understand what I am doing
wrong?

Hi Andreas,
The first thing that you should know is that this code isn't all
finished (nor the documentation, as you can tell).
Once you have created a managed repository + proxy, you can use:
http://localhost:8080/proxy/
from Maven (assuming the repository manager is http://localhost:8080/).
This will trigger downloads internally as needed to retrieve the
artifacts.
If you have multiple managed repositories that proxy to others, you
can use:
http://localhost:8080/proxy/repository_id/
As for indexing, this runs hourly by default. Currently, the proxy
doesn't automatically index new artifacts though there is an issue
open to do that.
