I do not need JPMS and I've never had a request for features around it at work. Our customers care about our products' features and couldn't care less about JPMS.

We could also said that "customers couldn't care less about lambdas", or "about records", etc. JPMS is for developers. The benefit for users is only indirect.

It would be nice if the JVM had a --stop-complaining-about-jpms

Migrating from a non-JPMS to a JPMS environment is a little bit equivalent to migrating from a Unix environment on which we were root, to a Unix environment on which we are an ordinary user with more limited authorizations. Asking for a --stop-complaining-about-jpms option is equivalent to asking "I want to be root again". The world is becoming more concerned about security, it will require some adjustment on our side.
