I presume: Maven can automatically download declared dependencies from a repository into the local repository directory as needed. Or users can manually download them into some other location and reference them as local "provided" resources.

I searched the interwebz without much success. I also find the official documentation <https://maven.apache.org/pom.html#Licenses> quite vague: This describes how the project may be legally distributed. The two stated > methods are repo (they may be downloaded from a Maven repository) or manual > (they must be manually installed). > What does "downloaded from a Maven repository" mean here? Thanks a lot! Florent
