v2 is in use by some VERY large providers and obviously the more
features you enable the more processing power you need, but comparing 1
on 1, speed is similar.

Yep, to be honest I thought the speed would really suck using Perl, but
in actual fact is not bad at all, which is why its not priority at this
time. Any rewrite in C would be 100% backwards compatible with the Perl
version, and more than likely both will be maintained side by side.
