By any change, did you manually edit 'configure' and remove that line
PACKAGE_VERSION=3.1.0
or even replace it with
PACKAGE_VERSION=
would you mind running
md5sum configure
and post the output ?
note you did not configure --prefix=/.../, Open MPI will be installed in
/usr/local
so since you are building it from a non root account, you should
sudo make install
