Can you try upgrading to OMPI 1.6.5? 1.6.5 has *many* bug fixes compared to 1.5.4.
A little background... Open MPI is developed in terms of release version pairs: "1.odd" are feature releases. We add new (and remove old) features, etc. We do a lot of testing, but this is all done in lab/testing environments; the code hasn't had a huge amount of real-world exposure. Feature series are eventually renamed into "1.even" stable releases. That is, after a feature series has been out in the real world for a while, and we've shaken out all the bugs, we stop adding new features, and generally make it a stable release series. Specifically: the 1.5.x series is the "feature" series that was eventually renamed "1.6.x", the last release of which was 1.6.5. Hence, the 1.6.5 series represents several bug fix releases after the 1.5.4 release.
