Frankly I spend most of my time simply using Ubuntu so debugging a current Fedora has less familiarity. If the ctl-alt-F1 (in Ubuntu F1 to F6 yield individual virtual consoles (tty based terminal screens) where F7 gets you back to the normal X graphical display if it is up).
