Hi Jon,
I actually did run yum localinstall /...../x86_64/skype-4.2.0.11-3.fc20.x86_64.rpm and yum downloaded and installed all the i686 libs, so I did not have to do any guess
work as to what packages skype needed.
I was only interested in avoiding having to download 32 bit libs.
But..... alas, it is not to be.
I have used the i686 version of skype for years in various Fedora and Ubuntu versions, installing as above had not proven to be a problem. Yes it needs 32 bit spare parts but that also has never proved to be a problem.

If one or more of the open source equivalents like ekiga et al would communicate seamlessly and freely with skype I'd go there in a flash but alas to get any such open source equivalents ?

Associates are reluctant to install open source equivalents in windows or apple so we suffer skype.

I was merely expressing my disdain for mixed architecture installations :)
