I suppose I don't see the reasoning behind having just a single / partition
taking up the whole drive.

What is wrong with installing Fedora with....

1. /boot of 500mb
2. SWAP of some size
3. / with a reasonable size
4. Leave the rest of the drive unused

Then, after installing, make the necessary partition with the as many inodes as
you want and configure the system to mount it where you want it. Possibly,
/home ???

Unless you go through the process of learning about kickstart, which I've not
done, I'm pretty sure what you want to do can't be done by the current
installer process.
