Do I understand that you expect smplayer to handle a M3U list named as
file.pls and vice versa (PLS list named file.m3u)?

On the face of it, I would like it if the program actually checked the
file content and acted on it, rather than dumbly go by the filename.
Okay for the file browser to filter out things based on name, but once a
file has been selected, act on it for what it is.
