This is true. My laptop's MS Windows XP doesn't seem to like GPT. Not sure about anything more recent. I only use the XP partition to load updated firmware on consumer devices, so I'm not about to spend money to upgrade an OS I use perhaps once a year.
My experience would be with Windows 7, which absolutely has to install on GPT.
