I don't see how this "need" is specific to women nor do I see this
"thick skin" is gender specic.
Conversely, the anonymity of the internet gives room to hide your real
identity and individuality (skill, education, gender, race, age,
nationality, size, weight, etc).
That said, I feel this anonymity is one major cause of these
communication issues. Another one is the internet being instrumentalized
for egoistic interests by various groups and individuals.
