Dear Ed and all,
I managed to make it work by reading the documentation in deep. The
problem was this:
As said in the readme file of the Doc directory that comes with the CATP
driver package,
I had to use -P <full-path-to-the-PPD-file>:
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p LBP5000 -P
/usr/share/cups/model/CNCUPSLBP5000CAPTK.ppd -v ccp://localhost:59687 -E
while the instructions I found on Google use the -m:
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p LBP2900 -m CNCUPSLBP2900CAPTK.ppd -v
ccp://localhost:59787 -E
To summarize the steps as this may benefits someone else later:
- Download and install CAPT driver package from here:
http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/printers/Laser/i-SENSYS_LBP2900.aspx?type=download&page=1
- Register the printer with this command:
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p LBP5000 -P
/usr/share/cups/model/CNCUPSLBP5000CAPTK.ppd -v ccp://localhost:59687 -E
where the PPD file got placed in the folder /usr/share/cups/model/ by
the driver package installed in the above step.
- Start the CCP daemon:
/etc/init.d/ccpd start
- Print a TestPage
I could also use the "Add Printer" link from the CUPS Web page
http://localhost:631/admin and specifying the correct Device URI
(ccp://localhost:59787/) and selecting the correct PPD file
(/usr/share/cups/model/CNCUPSLBP5000CAPTK.ppd).
If TestPage does not work, try to restart the printer.
I found that, when I plug in the printer, the CUPS system adds/installs
automatically; however that one does not work and if I tried to print
TestPage with it; I won't work and mess it all up: the printer won't
print any more even with the correct setup I had before. I need to
restart the printer to make it work again.
That is all my observations.
Now, I need a little more help: how can I disable the automatic
adding/installing of printer by CUPS?
I tried with "Browsing Off" in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf" but did not do it.
Again, thanks for all the help so far, very much appreciated.
Regards,
Khem

Yes, this printer was bought here, in Cambodia.
Even so, is there a solution. How can i make the printer work with F18?
What I would do is....
1. Download this from canon...
http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/printers/Laser/i-SENSYS_LBP2900.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:13-1060371&page=1&type=download
2. Un-tar the download....
3. Then go to where you un-tared ..../Linux_CAPT_PrinterDriver_V256_uk_EN/Doc
4. Un-tar guide-capt-2.56UK.tar.gz and then point your browser to
file://...../guide-capt-2.56UK/index
They seem to have put a fair amount of effort into documentation.
Please note that the instructions are prior to the introduction of "systemd". So, you'll
need to adjust for that. It may be "slightly" more complex.

may also come in handy.....
