linux does not need to mark a file nor a extension
and the ressource-fork concept of OSX is broken
by design

[harry@rh:~/Desktop]$ mv rpm.pdf rpm.what-do-i-know

[harry@rh:~/Desktop]$ file rpm.what-do-i-know
rpm.what-do-i-know: PDF document, version 1.4
