not entirely true
google for "EPT nested virtualization"

with VMware it is no problem installing ESXi x96_64 on VMware Workstation
and install a x86_64 guest inside this virtual ESXi and the performance
is not that bad - really useful to pack complex networks for testing
inside a single and transportable image

because KVM does not support it
