I'd swear that one of the most valuable contributions I make to any project I work on is making sure that all of the people involved have the same understanding of what we're doing and how we're going about doing it (frequently that even entails me changing my view of what that is). My vote is for anything that promotes clear communication and solidly against anything that makes clear communication more difficult.
