I'm happy that you have a new machine but you don't tell
us what kind of machine is. It is a laptop, a netbook, a PC? What
amount of RAM? Which processors? Exactly, how did you install and
what errors you had? Do you know about live CD / USB that lets you
try the Operative System before install it?
Things like that are very useful. If you don't give us data we can't
help you.

It is a desktop - AMD FX9tm0-6200 Six-Core Processor 3.80 GHz
8 GB ram
I burned an iso to a single disk, and if I understand
correctly that is a live CD, but I did a OS install to
the entire disk after I partitioned it with GParted.
Have 64 bit Win7 on it now.
On Ubunto I didn't get anywhere most of the time, but once
I did get the install screen to show up, but after that it
just had a blinking cursor.
On Fedora I didn't have any errors until it did the ~380
updates. Then it wouldn't boot, but instead gave error:
"GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon" and then
wouldn't go past a line that mentions verion 4.0 of
something, or something like that.
