Thank you for satisfying my curiosity. Alas, the only thing I could have suggested is tmpwatch, and you've already eliminated that as a possibility. However, now that I think about it, do you have BleachBit set to run at boot, or any other time automatically? If so, it might be set to clear /tmp.
