Thank you for your suggestion. It made me have another look at the options offered by spadmin. In Fax printer there is a tab "Device" and if I set the "Printer Language type" to "Postscript (Level from driver)" then the icon in the toolbar starts working too. So the problem is solved :) Thanks again!
