Actually that is the way to switch desktop environments, not display
managers. A display manager is the interface which lets you login,
where as a desktop environment is the interface that you get after
login.

Display manager: gdm, kdm, xdm

Desktop environment: Gnome, KDE, XFCE, LXDE
