At the bottom of 'man ls' here it says:
"The full documentation for ls is maintained as a Texinfo manual. If
the info and ls programs are properly installed at your site, the
command
info coreutils 'ls invocation'
should give you access to the complete manual.
And looking there, your questions are answered in the documentation of
the -l option.
