My desktop PC is organized something like this:
sda1: Windows
sda2: Boot
sda3: data
sda4: extended partition container
sda5: F15
sda6: F16
sda7: Rawhide
sda8: more data
 Until I was confident grub2 would work for me, sda2 held a copy of 
legacy grub, which I configured to chainload the various Fedora 
versions. Each version's grub2 gets installed to each Fedora's 
partition rather than to the MBR. I've since replaced legacy grub
 in sda2 with grub2, but updates to 
/boot/grub2/grub.cfg on sda2 are still done manually.
