may be using incorrect model parameter: check if
"/etc/modprobe.d/snd_hda_intel.conf" file was added and if it reads
"options snd-hda-intel model=generic"; I have read
some users have remove that line and got sound working again.
However i advise to write that line down before deleting if it needs
to be added again.

I meant delete the file, not the line, however, again i advise to
create a backup of the file somewhere if it needs to be added later:-)
