I have several thousand maildir emails in about 10 directories in Evolution. I need to get them into existing directories in Thunderbird which uses mbox format.
Why don't you keep the maildirs, and serve them up through IMAP using dovecot?
Then any decent email client can access them, locally or remotely. No conversion needed.
