That's what they wanted you to believe.

In fact, any time spent on the gnome devel list revealed that many
awful "features" were added, and many good ideas avoided, because of
some nebulously-defined user's "expectations," which was code-speak
for, "That's how Windows does it." Or less often, "That's how OSX does
it."
