I am facing this kind of error for quite a while:

So far, no fix in sight.

In my case, the origin is likely a near-hardware bug (BIOS?), which 
shows with all newer distributions (I tried Ubuntu 11.04, 
openSuSE-11.3/4, Fedora-13/14/15), but it doesn't show with Windows XP.
