The settings for Firefox being the default browser is not within Firefox.

In KDE it is found in "Settings --> Preferred Applications".  I'm sure
GNOME has a gui equivalent.

Too bad.  When I has this problem, and clicked on a URL in an email, the
command line did spit out something that allowed me to fix my issue.
