I presume that unplugging and replugging the USB mouse fixes it for the
time being?

What other USB devices do you have installed? Do they keep working?

What electric / electronic devices do you have near the computer? Is
there anything that could generate interference? Could you try the
computer somewhere else?

Does the mouse work in another computer? Does another USB mouse work in
this computer?

Is there anything in the logs?
