What I meant was that you can do a clean install of WinXP in a new VM that you create using VM Manager. If you need to access files on the old HD then mount it some place i.e. /mnt/WinXP... then make that mount point accessible through the new VM. You can mount it like a D:/ drive on the new WinXP VM and then copy whatever files you want from it. When I needed to access a special file from my WinXP VM I made a DOS disk image with the VM Manager then mounted it though loopback to place the file there and retrieve it after editing in WinXP. I then made the new disk image accessible as a D:/ drive to my WinXP VM. Worked slick.
