It seems that the reason for that mysterious preupgrade message we started
with did not apply to graphics driver.
As some people I know say "Be smart and write poetry !".

So I think, it is sensible to stop dealing with this preupgrade thing.

Install that F14 DVD on a different partition and all will be well.
