A handle is what windows calls a file unit. So wine doesn't like the pathname it received. > wine /home/tux/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Internet\ Explorer/ I suspect your backshashed spaces are getting read correctly by the shell, but when they get to wine, they are no longer escaped, so wine sees the spaces instead of the quoted string. Try quoting the pathname as was done in the OP's posting.
