Hi All,

I am working on a proposal where updates need to be
applied automatically.

Betterbird is in Flatpack. Flatpack confuses me.
Does it have a DNF style repo that can be set to
automatically update Betterbird?

Or should I just stick with Thunderbird?

Looking at:
https://www.betterbird.eu/downloads/##

There's some downloading automation info on that page, but it looks
like if you're installing something from one file you got from some
website, you're gonna have to keep on managing its updates in a similar
fashion. Unless the program self-updates (like Firefox can do when it
wasn't installed from a Fedora repo RPM).

I hate that. The install and update everything from repos, with one
"dnf update" command was one of the massively useful things that
organises the upkeep of a Fedora installation. The Windows way of
every application needing separate management was always a disaster.

Things didn't get updated until you went to use them, then your
workflow of what you wanted to do is interrupted by first updating it.
Half an hour later after download, install, log out, log back in again,
reboot, seems to work now... What was I going to do before I had to do
all that crap? But usually (for me) putting it off until later, then
later again, then later again.

On the other hand, if you got a flatpak via one of the software
management tools in Fedora (e.g. Gnome software), I expect that you
should be able to maintain its updates in a more automatic way the same
as your other installed software.

I say "expect" because I don't use Gnome software, and I'd hope it
works like other system software managers. Though I've seen a few that
are just diabolical to use. Looking at its blurb on the Gnome website,
it looks a bit like the appstore on Mac, ugh!

Thank you!
