It looks like the problem is with opengl. It appears that it can only be
used within the virtual machine or the host, but not both. I've deleted all
the references to opengl and switched to basic vnc and it appears to be
working.
I don't really know how (or what) configuration was working previously and
why it doesn't work now, but I suspect it has to do with the nvidia drivers.
Here's my working xml config in case someone else is having this problem
and needs a quick solution (but be sure to read through it yourself before
just blindly using it).
