Hi All,
I created a Windows 11 25H2 flash drive with Rufus
using my Windows 11 qemu-kvm VM. Rufus allow me to
bypass W11's silly hardware requirement for customer
with perfectly good hardware that do not meet W11's
silly hardware requirement.
And the flash drive works perfectly. I have already
used it to upgrade one of my W11 VM's to 25H2.
But for remote assists that want to be updated to W11,
I need to make the flash drive into a mountable ISO.
So far I only get "the image is corrupted". I can mount
the iso just fine in Fedora 41.
This is what I have tried so far:
# dd bs=4096 if=/dev/sdc1 of=Win11_25H2_English_x64_Rufus.iso
# gnome-disks create partition image
Win11_25H2_English_x64_Rufus.img
Both come up as corrupted in all my Windows VM's.
But this did work:
As root:
[1] copy the data partition to your data drive:
a) use gparted to identify teh data partition (it the big ntfs one)
b) use dd to extract the data partition:
for example:
dd bs=4096 status=progress if=/dev/sdc1
of=Win11_25H2_English_x64_Rufus.iso
[2] mount the data section (not the EUFI section) of teh extracted ISO
you created
[3] run genisoimage to create the ISO:
for example:
genisoimage -allow-limited-size -iso-level 3 -o
/home/kvm/Win11_25H2_English_x64_Rufus2.iso
/run/media/tony/CCCOMA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV9
-o output.iso – This specifies the output file name for the ISO file. I
my_folder – This is the name of the directory you want to create the ISO
file from.
