I'm wondering if you're having issues with SELinux that stops it from
even starting so then there are no messages from php-fpm. Have you
looked at the output of `ausearch -m avc -ts recent` after trying to
start the service to see if there are related messages? Perhaps try
running as root `ausearch -m avc -ts recent | audit2why`. Or if you're
unfamiliar with SELINUX, temporarily disable it by running `setenforce
0` to set it to permissive for a time.

Sincerely,
