Gmail Notifier Firefox plugin gone mute

After installing a recent batch of updates the audio notification from this Firefox plugin is MIA. I still get a popup notification but there's no audio. In the extension's settings the "Play" button has no effect.

All the dancing cats on Youtube are still meowing, loud and clear, so I see no issues with my audio in general. Just this plugin. Is anyone else using this plugin, if so how's things after updating?
