That still works for me. Maybe you replied to one of the people that gets aliased. Check your addressbox.

Thunderbird keeps continually telling me it wants to compact the mails storage for what is a trivial amount of space, Is there a way to make it use a reasonable size to do the prompt?

I don't know what the trigger is, but you could check the box so it doesn't ask you every time.
