I up mine to about 5.  That way if there's a flurry of kernel updates
(which has happened in the past) and one or more of them cause me a
problem, I'll still have an older one to rely on.

The installonly limit affects *any* package that installs alongside
previous installs, rather than as an upgrade that replaces it (how most
updated program packages are handled).  It doesn't only affect kernel
installations.
