removing this file alone fixed the issue after reboot!
Thank you so much.
Afterwards, I installed package nvidia-gpu-firmware but it did not
change anything. Maybe, as you suggest, it is not needed for my GPU.
Thanks to you, I was able to leave the PC in better shape to my
children just before leaving home for a business trip.
I will then have to try to reinstall the nvidia proprietary driver as
it is much more efficient to play Minecraft (my son). I'll try that on
Friday.
