Possible?  Of course, all the source code is available.  :-)
Available?  I haven't done it, but I can see a possible way to do so.
The screensaver is just a program.  So, it should be possible to replace
the code that displays images, and instead start a process that
continuously cycles a video player.  Getting out of the loop would be
the issue, I think. The screensaver could retain keystroke capture, and
when it catches a keystroke, kill the video player, and continue on
with the recovery of the screen.

This sounds easy enough that if you search the web, you should find
someone who has done it already.
