There probably are some very good advancements with Wayland and KDE. Unfortunately I won't be seeing them any time soon. I can't use the nouveau driver with my nVidia card since it suffers from hangs. So, I use the nVidia drivers supplied by rpmfusion. nVidia had made many changes to their drivers to better support Wayland.
