Why does suspend to ram need swap space?  I can see why hibernate
(suspend to disk) might need it, but not suspend to ram....

On whose hardware?  It didn't work for me on FC6 without using suspend2
(no called tuxonice).  It *did* work for me (without needing tuxonice)
on F9 without any problems, but it is broken again in F11 and remains so
in F12.  On my hardware.
