At my former work a "mission critical" package from the European Space Agency needed libgfortran.so.3. At the time, Ubuntu had several older libgfortran versions. On Fedora I just built the latest GCC-6 version (I think it was 6.5) to get libgfortran.so.3. -- George N. White III
