My observation over decades of computer use is that hardware deliberately waits till a major software change to break so as to cause the most possible confusion :-). Try every possible combination of different stuff, especially things that are "too simple" to go wrong, like the cable. Try a different USB port, a different sdcard, a different sdcard reader.
